Lovers by the Sea

2023

Lovers by the Sea is an ode to the Pacific Northwest. This illustration explores intimacy as an elemental force, merging human connection with the natural world. The female figure embodies a Pacific Madrone, her smooth, warm-toned bark and red berries echoing its distinctive form, while the male figure reflects a Douglas Fir, moss-covered and steadfast. These two trees often grow side by side, symbolizing quiet partnership and interdependence. Set against a coastal horizon, their entwined forms blur flesh and landscape, portraying love as both rooted and enduring.
